Clare Pharmacy now offers free blood pressure checks

High Blood Pressure, or Hypertension, is one of the leading causes of deaths in England and can lead to a variety of serious cardiovascular conditions, such as heart disease and stroke, if not diagnosed and treated early. Hypertension is caused by a variety of factors including eating a diet high in salt and fats, not getting enough exercise or even just inherited traits out of our control. About the scheme

This new scheme, introduced in December 2023, allows patients to have their blood pressure checked by a trained member of our pharmacy staff, in order to identify new cases of hypertension. 

By diagnosing hypertension early, patients can take action to improve their health and lifestyle, improving their quality of life and at the same time reducing the burden on the NHS.

This service is available to people who are aged over 40 years, and have not previously had a diagnosis and are not undergoing regular checks by a healthcare professional. You can use the links below to check your eligibility and to book an appointment to see a trained member of staff in the pharmacy. 

After taking a blood pressure reading, we will pass it on to your GP and it will go on your record. If your blood pressure is over a certain threshold we will refer you to your GP where they can, if necessary, provide treatment and advice to help you reduce your blood pressure. You may also be offered an ambulatory blood pressure monitor to wear for a 24-hour period to take several readings, giving a more accurate measurement.
